First of all, we want to let everyone know that this article is NOT AI-generated.
So, it’s barely been a few years, and pretty much every industry in this world, including the music industry, has been deeply impacted by the very fast technological advances regarding artificial intelligence. And let’s be honest, as exciting and interesting as it may seem, it’s also very scary. We all wonder what the future holds for us, music producers, and musicians in general.
I think it’s wise to be realistic and not think that AI will "never" do this or that. I’m sure you’ve heard so many people saying a few years ago that AI could not produce graphic art, and it did. AI could not talk to you like a human, and now you see people interacting with AI girlfriends, or using ChatGPT as their psychologists. And even crazier, now you have AIs that can produce full industry-quality songs for you.
Some people try to get their hands on it with the goal of releasing dozens of songs per day and get as much streaming royalties as possible through platforms. Others try to trick people and sell AI-generated instrumentals. Little by little, the stuff we used to hear such as "AI is just a tool for musicians" may slowly shift into "AI is a musician", and if we look even further, "AI will kick musicians out".
Does it mean you should quit music? No. This is just a possibility. Live music still exists. And studios still exist too. You will be able to find other people who enjoy human-made music. And even if your art is not suited for live music, there will still be things like beatmaking battles and shows.
Will AI kill music producers forever? The answer is no. The industry may change, but even if we end up getting sent out the pitch, we love our art, and nothing in this world will stop us from practicing our beloved art.
